In this Eighth (and BONUS) article of the series called “Taking Control of your Windows Desktop“, I show you how to change the Windows 7 Screen Resolution.

Windows Screen Resolution refers to the height and width of your screen in pixels (NOT the size of your computer monitor). Resolution is important because it determines two things with regards to how you “see” what you are looking at.

  1. How small or large everything looks
  2. How “much” of a document or web page you can “see“
Higher resolutions (bigger pixel dimensions) let you see more at a given time, but makes everything on the screen smaller.
Lower resolutions (smaller pixel dimensions) make everything on the screen larger (and sometimes easier to see) but makes documents and web pages “bigger” and forces you to do more scrolling.
The great thing is, you can change the Screen Resolution quickly, whenever it might make sense. For example, perhaps you set the resolution lower in your day to day work with the Desktop, so that it’s easier to see your icons. But then when you start your browser, and go online, you make the resolution higher so that you don’t have to scroll as much on Web pages.
